The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) for visiting Bhutan is set at USD 100 per person per night, excluding the actual travel expenses. This fee covers the SDF/royalty and travelers are required to pay additional costs for government-approved hotels, transportation, guide fees, and meals.

The SDF is directly deposited into the government revenue account and serves as a significant income stream for public infrastructure development. Revenue generated from tourism is earmarked for various public expenditures, including the construction of schools, roads, bridges, health facilities, environmental initiatives, waste management, and investments in tourism development activities. Hence, every tourist visiting Bhutan contributes to the well-being of its citizens and the overall progress of infrastructure in the country.

To obtain a visa for entry into Bhutan, applicants must pay the SDF, and visa applications can be submitted through the Department of Tourism’s official website.
